Makeup primers have been around for quite sometime now, but I have never found primers to be important enough to invest on them. I guess it’s time I change, right?
The only primer I have ever used is Colorbar Perfect Match primer, which I am not a big fan of. Probably my experience with the first primer made me so reluctant to invest time and money on them. Also, not many brands in India offer primers that makes it even more difficult.
Recently Nikkie from NikkieTutorials on Youtube raved about Nivea After Shave Balm, which is supposed to be the best primer she has ever used. Someone who has tried all the brands is raving about After Shave Balm? Just after her mentioning about the product, every one starting trying it out. Who won’t, its Nikkie’s recommendation obviously everyone believed.
Nivea sells the exact product in India, so I had to try it out.
Nivea Men After Shave Balm comes in a heavy white glass bottle with a plastic cap, which makes it difficult to travel with. If you wish to travel with the product better dispense it in a small container. For the value that I had to pay for the product, I am impressed with the packaging. I got mine from Amazon.in for INR 235. Pretty affordable, right?
The balm has runny consistency which feels like any other body lotion you might have tried. Skin absorbs the product in minutes leaving the skin feel tacky. This makes the foundation stick to the skin much better than the Colorbar primer. I was also surprised that this did not break me out as I have sensitive skin. Although the packaging saying it is suitable for sensitive skin, there are times when even sensitive products don’t work for me.
One thing that few people might not enjoy is the scent it has. It smells like men’s deo, not sure if that is the exact way of describing the smell. The fragrance is not too strong and will fade away within 20 to 30 minutes of application. I personally like the scent it has, but it can be a bummer for some.
Does it work?
Yes, it does make my foundation last longer than the usual wear time. I have tried it with Maybelline Fit Me, Loreal Infallible, Mac pro-long wear and Covergirl. It has worked wonders in terms of making the application easy to making my makeup last longer. However, I did have not seen any difference in the powders that I have applied on top, like bronzer, contour, blush, etc. Wear time of all the powders remained same in comparison with no primer makeup.
Overall Rating: 4.9/5
Definitely try it out as it won’t make a big dent in your pocket. In the past two months every time I have makeup on, this has been my go to primer, which says a lot in itself. I never commit to something so easily. If you have dry to normal skin type, please try this once and you will know what I am talking about. Thanks Nikkie for recommending it.
