From last two weeks I have been struggling to write a review on L’Oreal Paris Shine Caresse Lip Color. (Phew! that was quite mouthful) This is mainly because I have never tried something like it before. And I kinda love and hate the product at the same time.
“The next generation lip colour, that combines the texture & shine of a gloss with the long wear of a stain. Delivering a lasting colour with a subtle glossy shine. The unique formula comprised of 30% water and 60% oil provides an exceptionally high level of moisture, allowing for 6hr hydration. Concentrated soluble colour pigments create a subtle wet look with a weightless feeling on lips.”
Price: Rs 499 for 6 ml
Shade: Lolita 606
My take on the product:
These lip stain/gloss come in a beautiful golden tube which is a pleasant change from the traditional lip gloss (mostly you see transparent glass tubes). I love the way it looks. Its like a piece of jewelry you own. So now you know why I have used golden earrings in the pictures.
One more thing that impressed me was the fact that without damaging the elegant looks L’Oreal has brilliantly provided a small transparent band on the tube to see the actual color/ shade. This way, you can see the exact shade you’re looking for.
The applicator is drop shaped with a dent in the center. This helps to get sufficient amount of product out of the tube. There are many who have compared it to YSL lip stain, but as an economical counterpart. Unfortunately I cannot comment on that front as I have never used one. 🙁
The lip stain/gloss formula is exceptionally light weighted, watery and long lasting. Don’t consider this as a moisturizer, but a top coat of this product will definitely lock in the layer of moisturizer underneath. I have been using it for quite sometime now. The first time I applied it, I had this funny tingling sensation. Out of curiosity, I immediately checked its ingredients but could not find anything dubious. Please don’t get me wrong here. I like the way it feels on my lips. The formula is long lasting and stays on for approximate 4~5 hours.
Coming to the downside, which is the most disappointing side of the product is its color. The shade you see normally, yields a different result post application. However this isn’t the case with the brighter shades. Second most annoying aspect is its fragrance. It smells like medicine which cannot go unnoticed.
How to apply: Unlike any other lip gloss you have ever used, apply one layer and let it dry. Apply the second layer and continue with the same process till you build the color as you desire. I personally like to apply only two layers and I am done.

If you are sucker for good packaging, then I would recommend buying one. But as for its purpose is not that great. My preference would still be a non-traditional formula. Certainly the fragrance and the color payoff let me down. No doubt that the color is build-able.
In short I would say, what you get is not what you pay for.
