Four basic steps in skincare routine are exfoliation, cleansing, toning and moisturizing. But paying attention to each of them is so difficult. Exfoliation and Toning are two steps that I never bothered about. However, with more and more use of makeup on my skin, I realized the importance of each to avoid acne, blemishes and other signs of aging.
If you have never given it a thought, then the following benefits of Toner might change your mind.
Benefits of Toner :
- Balances skin’s pH
- Helps the skin retain moisture.
- Removes last traces of dirt, makeup and cleanser
- Counteracts the effects of Chlorine and Minerals found in tap water
- Enhances skin care routine
- Helps skin retain its protective barrier
Today I am going to review my first and only Toner – “Clarins Toning Lotion with Iris” for combination or oily skin.
Alcohol-free toner — with purifying Iris and Sage extracts — removes every last trace of cleanser, leaving combination and oily skin types pristine-clean and perfectly radiant. Skin-balancing formula tones and tightens pores, while helping to normalize surface oils. Preps skin for the Clarins treatments to follow.
Price: INR 1400 for 200ml
How to apply:
Apply after Cleansing Milk. Soak two cotton pads with Toning Lotion and smooth over the face and neck.
My take on the product:
Clarins Toning Lotion was my first choice mainly because its alcohol free. Alcohol is not good for skin as it can increase the risk of breakout for those with sensitive and acne prone skin. Inflammation, irritation and dryness are few more damages caused by the prolonged use of toners with alcohol.
Clarins Toning Lotion comes in a frosty bottle which holds 200ml of liquid. The bottle has a small opening at the top to control the dispensed amount. It’s water based property makes it very easy for application and gives a sense of safe cosmetic.
The two main ingredients which are the selling point of the product are Iris and Sage extracts.
Benefits of Iris: Iris extract from the Iris flower, rich in Isoflavones which helps to fight against wrinkles, dryness and skin slackening. It helps skin retain the moisture and elasticity without drying it out. To sum it up, Iris extract is one ingredient that you can blindly go for in any skin care product.
Benefits of Sage: Sage extract has anti-inflammatory effects which helps soothe the skin. It also has various antioxidants like Labiatic acid and Carnosic acid and several medicinal properties.
How I use and my experience:
I use this twice a day, (morning and evening) post cleansing, by swiping a cotton pad drenched in toner. It not only cleans the skin but also gives a refreshing feeling. It painlessly takes care of any traces of makeup and cleaner that I miss out generally. The skin feels clean without having to loose moisture. However, you must note that it doesn’t show significant change in the pores, as claimed.
I think of toner as primer but for skincare. The way primer preps your face for the makeup, a toner relates to the primer for moisturizer and serums.
